Andreas Nauen, Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Gamesa, revealed plans to cease onshore wind turbine sales in China, while increasing its global turbine price by 5%.

Referring to China’s booming wind industry, Nauen acknowledged that Siemens Gamesa is facing a severer competition from local manufacturers, including Goldwind, Mingyang, Envision Group, etc. Following other overseas wind turbine manufacturers, Siemens Gamesa concluded that China will no longer be a preferable market for sales. Siemens Gamesa was considering also to retrieve from Russian and Turkey market for reasons undisclosed.

In the future, China will still be the manufacture hub for Siemens Gemasa, supplying standard products to the world. “China has a cost-competitive edge, a complete supply chain, and can produce qualified products for all the other markets.” Paulo Soares, Onshore Wind Business Director explained.

As estimated, Siemens Gamesa’s Tianjin factory produced 2.3GW wind turbines in 2020, accounting for 30% of its global capacity of 7.7GW.

Andreas Nauen, who only took office last year, is now formulating a package plan for Siemen Gamesa’s onshore wind business, which is staggering in difficulty in contrast to the prosperous offshore wind business.
